CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Questions? Contact our Education Directors at education@theshanecenter.org.

Our education programming is not just about learning how to act, sing, or dance, though it’s very likely you’ll learn all three here. We aspire to provide an opportunity for self discovery: of personal creativity, confidence, talent, and value as an individual no matter the age.

We are incredibly grateful to the foundations, organizations, and individuals
who’s generosity has allowed us to provide scholarships, furthering our mission of
Strengthening Community Through Participation in the Arts

Our organization has been devoted to providing artistic education to the students of Park & Gallatin County for over two decades. We accomplish this through the following education programming:

  • K-8 students participate in an intensive 2-week afterschool program culminating in three public performances of a full musical production of The Jungle Book.

TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT 12PM, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST

  • Formerly the High School Production, this program follows the same template as our Mainstage shows — resulting in a full production experience. Participating students meet over the course of 6 weeks to rehearse, followed by 4 community performances and a free school performance. Teens of all area schools and recent high school graduates are welcome to audition for this full-length teen theatre production.

  • The cornerstone of the Education Program is a two-week full-day workshop focusing on all aspects of the performing arts (speech, movement, dance, and music).

Students meet at the Shane Center to learn about these aspects and to rehearse a musical production which will be presented to the community at the close of the workshop with 3 performances.

  • June: A two-week long full-day camp culminating in
a production of Pinocchio for grades K-5.

July: A two-week long full-day camp culminating in
a production of The Little Mermaid for grades K-8.

  • Shane Center staff work with students at Arrowhead Elementary, Pine Creek School, Gardiner Public School, and the Park and Gallatin County Home School Association to provide a performing arts opportunity in rural areas. During that week, students rehearse and perform a full production.

  • A total of 3 different classes are offered in the Winter, Spring, and Fall. Each class, hosted over 4 weeks, focuses on different elements of the performing arts.

  • Students ages 13-18 explore contemporary social issues and prepare an artistic performance for the community and their peers culminating in 3 public performances. By encouraging students to openly address difficult topics, bridges can be formed that mitigate feelings of social isolation.

MT Shakes: Faithful Friends

This spring, the MT Shakes! program is proud to present Faithful Friends, an original play written by Matt Foss that was set to tour in 2020. Due to Covid, the program quickly pivoted to offer one of the first virtual theatre programs of its kind. Students sent in home videos to be incorporated into the show, and robust educational resources were shared with teachers and students.

This year, the team of four returning actors and returning director, Matt Foss, remounts the show to bring it to students in person for the first time!

Performance will be held in the Dulcie Theatre.
